Board of
Directors - School Year 2008 - 2009
The Board of Directors of Boulder Jewish Day School meets the second Tuesday of every month, August through May, and as needed during June and July. Board elections are held at a special Annual Meeting held for that purpose in the month of May, prior to the end of the school year.

Rachel Steinberg
President |
|
As a
licensed elementary teacher with a Master's in Special
Education, Rachel worked extensively with young children, in
particular with at-risk youth with emotional/behavioral
disabilities. In addition, she holds a Bachelor's degree in
Psychology, specializing in early childhood development. Rachel
has co-authored and assisted in research under both the
educational and early childhood umbrella. In 2005 she founded
Child-Works, a company providing consultation to families
struggling with sleep issues. Rachel is actively involved in the
Boulder Jewish community, both as a member of Hillel's Advisory
Committee and at Bonai Shalom.
Rachel lives in Boulder with her husband, Michael, and their
three children, Olivia, Elyana and Noah.

Mitten Lowe

|
A native Coloradoan, she has returned to her home state after a 4-year
stint in Tucson, Arizona. She returns to the Denver/Boulder area with
her husband, Ethan, whom she met at Colorado State University in Fort
Collins. She has a daughter attending BJDS. Having been very
involved in the Jewish community in Tucson, Mitten is excited and
passionate about getting involved in her new community. She is also
currently studying to get her masters in Non-Profit Management as well
as working as Young Women’s Outreach Chair for Boulder Hadassah.

Rabbi Adam

Rabbi Adam is the
Director of the Hillel at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He was
ordained as a Conservative Rabbi from the Zeigler School of Rabbinic Studies
in Los Angeles where he worked for a year following ordination. Before
starting rabbinical school he worked as a CPA for several years in Chicago
and Los Angeles. Adam lives in Boulder with his wife Elana and their two
sons, Yair and Nevo.

Shari Edelstein

|
Shari has twenty years of experience with nonprofits
as a grant maker, organizational consultant, professional manager
and volunteer. Shari served as the Director of the Grants
Department for New Israel Fund, as a Regional Manager for the Jewish
Agency for Israel and as the Israel Field Representative for UJF
Pittsburgh Federation. Before moving to Colorado, Shari worked
for the Maryland Association for Nonprofits on a national program
promoting best practices in nonprofit management. Currently, Shari
serves as the Coordinator for 18 Pomegranates, a newly formed
foundation based in Boulder, Co. Before moving to Israel and
Baltimore, Shari practiced law at Arnold & Porter in Washington, DC.
Education: She has a B.S. from Cornell University and a J.D. from
the University of Wisconsin. Her sons attend BJDS.

Cheryl
Fellows |

|
Cheryl is the Chief Financial and
Operating Officer of Big Green Company, Inc. She is also a
consultant, specializing in corporate and non-profit finance,
logistics, planning and development. She is the Executive Director
of the Boulder Jewish Festival, the largest annual Jewish event west
of Chicago. Cheryl's' two children both attended enrichment
programs at BJDS. Education: AB, Stanford University; MBA,
University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

David
Greenwald |
|
David Greenwald
is originally from New York City where he taught for 9 years in the
elementary public schools. He came to Colorado in 2003 where he has
been teaching in the Boulder Valley School District. He attended the
University of Buffalo where he received a BA in Psychology. Then he
directed his focus towards education and received his MA in
education at The City of New York.

Michelle
Goldman |
|
|
An engineer,
Michelle works at BATC and is currently working on the photometer
instrument on the Kepler spacecraft, scheduled to be launched in
early 2009. In the past, she was part of a team that successfully
integrated, tested and launched the Deep Impact spacecraft whose
mission was to determine the composition of comet Temple 1. Prior
to working at BATC, Michelle worked on satellite launch vehicles for
Israel Aircraft Industries, for a NASA commercial research center
out of CU-Boulder and for Ford Aerospace developing NORAD satellite
tracking software. Michelle has served as the Adult Education
Chair-person for Congregation Bonai Shalom, a co-chair for the
original “Holocaust Awareness Week,” and was an active member of
Hillel. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Michelle has a BS and
MS from University of Colorado, Dept. of Aerospace Engineering
Sciences.

Annie
Henninger |
|
Annie is the
Fine Art teacher at Alpine Elementary, I. B. World School in
Longmont, CO. Since it’s opening in 2005, she has been directly
involved in developing a highly unique, inquiry based, globally
conscious curriculum which successfully drives and nurtures the
school’s climate. Prior to her public school career, Annie worked
in outdoor education at the Telluride Academy and developed Art
programs and camps for children in both Telluride and Aspen. Annie
has a BA in Art and Psychology from Muhlenberg College (1991) and
holds a K-12 teaching certificate in Art Education and Painting from
Colorado State University. She is an active member at Bonai Shalom
and hopes to further her education in Jewish Studies/Jewish Family
Education.

Shannon Kalisher |
|
Shannon is a
certified elementary teacher with a Master's Degree in special
education, currently teaching in the Boulder Valley School District. In
addition to her teaching experience, Shannon has had extensive training
and experience in the area of systems change frameworks and strategic
planning in the educational world. Prior to teaching full-time, Shannon
worked on the research team of the Assistant Dean at the University of
Colorado at Denver, School of Education and Human Development. Projects
included studies on teacher training, teacher quality, and retention of
educators. Shannon lives in Boulder with her husband, Hardy and their 3
year old son, Owen.

Scott
Slack |
|
|
Scott Slack has been a filmmaker and
digital artist since his graduation from the Film and Television program
at New York University, where he was among the first students to
participate in the Interactive Telecommunications Program. Since his
time at New York University, he has worked as a professional editor,
filmmaker, installation artist and educator. His projects have been
screened on PBS and at such film festivals as the International Wildlife
Film Festival in Missoula Montana and the Boston International Film
Festival. He also served for 2 years as Executive Director of Channel
2, Taos Public Access.
Scott's eldest son attends BJDS.

Edward
Victor |

Ed is
employed at Qualcomm. His experience includes two years as
treasurer, and two prior years as secretary on the Board of
Congregation Bonai Shalom in Boulder, as well as a prior term as
Treasurer for BJDS.
